About Impulse Responses

Unlike most IRs out there, this pack is NOT a collection of raw speaker captures. These are engineered by Jens Bogren, a top metal producer behind hundreds of world-class productions.

The IR pack is designed specifically to help get your mixes to the next level, fast. The responses are built through an analog chain and mixed to fit with all the other elements in a dense metal mix.
It can be overwhelming to go through endless mic configurations and raw captures and still have to change the tone with additional processing before you know it truly works.

Instead, the Jens Bogren IR packs contain responses with different, alternatively EQ'd versions to adapt to different amps, guitars, and mixes. The result is that you can get your guitars sound as if Jens engineered them.

The exact same cabs you hear on all the albums Jens produced or mixed. These are not 'based on' or 'aiming to recreate'. This is the real deal.

It's not possible to demo impulse responses but you can get a free demo of STL Libra, an excellent IR loader that has three IRs from our pack, along with some blending presets from Jens!

We wanted to truly reflect Jens' workflow when it comes to crafting sounds. In his productions Jens uses a different approach and signal chain for heavy rhythm guitars, lead, and clean tones.

There's nothing stopping you from sounding great when using the rhythm pack on leads. Many of our users have with great results!

Microphones and cab names can be a distraction when picking the right sound, so they are not included in the files names. Jens wants you to pick the best tone, not a favorite microphone; “a 57 on Mesa Cab" can sound everything from completely horrible to absolutely wonderful.

An Impulse response allows capturing the signal chain of an actual guitar cabinet, along with a microphone, preamp, eq, and any other analog processing.

This essentially allows you to run your guitar through Jens' chain and get a tone you heard on countless world-class metal productions.

You will still need a RAW tone from a real guitar amp or an amp sim, but the cab and microphone will have the most significant impact on the sound.

To use an IR in your DAW, you will need an IR loader. There are many excellent ones out there, but in my tests, I found that some can actually color the sound!

We recommend using STL Tones Libra, or a more limited, free STL Tones NadIR.
To get the cleanest tone in NadIR, we recommend you to:
- Solo one of the IR slots (if using a single IR)
- Set 'LO PASS' to '22.0 kHz'
- Set 'Resonance' to 0

Absolutely! The IRs work with most hardware units, and you can load them up through their respective software.
