Krimh Drums Multi Out Routing

Capture YOUR IDEAS

Krimh Drums comes with a fully capable mixer with studio-quality effects that allow you to process each part of the drum kit in great detail.
And in most scenarios, this is all you'd need to get great-sounding drums in your productions.

However, if you are looking for more control and would like to be able to mix each individual part of the drum kit in your DAW, then that's where multi-output routing comes into play!

An important note: advanced routing is available only in the full version of Krimh Drums, not Krimh Drums Free.

How to set up multiple outputs in Kontakt

To start, let's create additional outputs in Kontakt so that we can route our drums to them later.

1. Make a new track in your DAW and load an instance of Kontakt.
(If you are using Logic Pro X, make sure to load the “Multi-Output 16xStereo” version.)

2. In Kontakt, click on the Workspace menu at the top and enable “Outputs”.
This will make the Outputs area visible at the bottom of Kontakt’s interface.

3. In the Outputs section, click on the little “+” icon next to where it says “Outputs”.
A dialog menu will appear.

4. In the dialog menu, enter the following values:

• Quantity: 16
• Number of channels: 2
• Standard / Host output: Kt. st.1 [1]
• Ascending output assignment: check
• Delete existing channels before creating new ones: check
• Make this your default configuration: check (optional) With all of that in place, click OK.

You should now have 16 stereo channels at the bottom of your Kontakt’s interface.

5. In Kontakt, load Krimh Drums, and navigate to the Mixer section.

You will see a dropdown menu below each channel, allowing you to select the output.
By default, all channels are set to "Master", meaning they are all routed to the last channel named "Master".

6. To route Krimh Drums to Kontakt’s outputs, you have two options.

First, you can assign each channel to a Kontakt output channel by clicking the dropdown menu of each channel.
Alternatively, you can select the option "route all channels to sequential outputs," which will automatically assign the channels for you.

7. Done! Now we are ready to route Kontakt into your DAW.

How to route Kontakt’s outputs to individual tracks in your DAW

Once you have set up all 16 stereo channels in Kontakt and assigned them to Krimh Drums channels, you are ready to route the outputs to tracks in your DAW.
This process will be different depending on the DAW you're using.

So the sections below will guide you on how to do this in different DAWs:
- REAPER
- Pro Tools
- Logic Pro X
- Studio One
- Ableton
- Cubase

Please skip to the section for your preferred DAW.

If you have a different DAW, the process may be similar, and you can investigate further on how to do it in your DAW.

Routing Krimh Drums in REAPER

If you have not completed the previous section on "How to set up multiple outputs in Kontakt,"
please do so before continuing with this section.

1. In REAPER, go to the track where you have your instance of Kontakt loaded, and click on the FX button.
This will open the FX chain.

3. Done! You now can use these newly created tracks to process the different channels in Krimh Drums individually.
Feel free to further customize your tracks by renaming them, assigning colors,
and arranging them in a way that works best for you.

Once you are satisfied with your setup, you can save it as a template that can be easily applied to any future project.
This way, you will never have to set up everything from scratch again!

To save your tracks as template in REAPER:
Select all of the tracks, right-click one of them, and select "Save tracks as track template...". Give it a name and save.

You will then be able to right-click any empty field of the track area and load your track template from there.

Routing Krimh Drums in Logic Pro X

If you have not completed the previous section on "How to set up multiple outputs in Kontakt,"
please do so before continuing with this section.

1. In Logic, open up the Mixer and find the track where you have your instance of Kontakt loaded.

2. Click on the small “+” symbol at the bottom of the fader. Repeat this 15 times.
With each press, it will automatically create and route to Kontakt’s outputs sequentially.

3. Now, you can use these newly created tracks to process the different channels in Krimh Drums individually!

Feel free to further customize your tracks by renaming them, assign colors and arranging them in a way that works best for you.

Once you are satisfied with your setup, you can save it as a template that can be easily applied to any future project.
This way, you will never have to set up everything from scratch again!

To save your tracks as template in Logic Pro X:

1. In Logic, go to the File menu and select “Save as Template”. Give it a name and save.

2. Now, whenever you want to start a new project with the templates already setup,
choose File > New From Template.

3. In the case that you want to add your template to a pre-existing project, you can choose
File > Import > Logic Projects and locate the template.

Routing Krimh Drums in Pro Tools

If you have not completed the previous section on "How to set up multiple outputs in Kontakt,"
please do so before continuing with this section.

1. In Kontakt, go to the Output section at the bottom and click on the dropdown menu for
“Presets / Batch Configuration” and select Save current output section state as default for > AAX Plugin.

2. Save the Pro Tools project, quit and reopen Pro Tools, and load the project again.

3. In the Pro Tools project, click on the Track tab in the menu bar, then select New.
Let’s create 15 Stereo Aux Input tracks.

12.png__PID:c8a24ded-7387-488e-9bfb-4bb082f07d67

4. Open the mixer and select the 15 newly crated Aux Input tracks.

5. In the first Aux Input track, hold Ctrl + Alt on Windows or Cmd + Opt on Mac,
and click on where it says "no input" and select Plugin > Kontakt > St.2.

By holding this shortcut and having all aux tracks selected, all the remaining tracks will be sequentially assigned to the next output.
This saves you the time of individually mapping each track!

Now, you can use these newly created tracks to process the different channels in Krimh Drums individually!
We suggest renaming them to match the respective channel names.

Note: The first track where you have your Kontakt instance loaded will be used for MIDI,
and the first output of Kontakt will be used, in this case, the kick output.

Once you are satisfied with your setup, you can save it as a template that can be easily applied to any future project.
This way, you will never have to set up everything from scratch again!

To save your tracks as template in Pro Tools:

1. In Pro Tools, go to the File menu and select “Save as Template”. Give it a name and save.
